The Cebu Provincial Government has started rehabilitation works on four additional earthquake-damaged bridges in northern Cebu as part of its ongoing post-disaster infrastructure recovery program under Governor Pamela Baricuatro.
The latest projects, with a combined allocation of P94.2 million, aim to restore key transport links affected by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck northern Cebu last year.
Among those under repair is the Poblacion Borbon Bridge I, a 35-meter structure with a contract cost of P38.9 million. Also included is the 11.9-meter Poblacion Borbon Bridge II, valued at P7.2 million.
In the same municipality, rehabilitation works are ongoing for Tabunan Bridge I and II, which have a combined span of around 24 meters and a total project cost of P27 million.
In Sogod town, repair works are also underway on the 19-meter Calumboyan Bridge, with an allocation of P21.1 million.
The Provincial Engineering Office (PEO) said the additional projects are part of broader efforts to restore damaged infrastructure and improve mobility in affected northern Cebu communities.
Officials noted that several bridges were left in varying states of damage following the earthquake, disrupting transportation and local economic activity in multiple towns.
The newly launched works are in addition to ongoing rehabilitation projects in Cebu’s fourth and fifth districts.
Provincial data showed that at least eight other bridges are currently undergoing repair, with a combined contract cost of P159.732 million.
These include Cabica Bridge (P27.7 million), Cadaruhan Bridge (P26.6 million), and Tagnucan Bridge (P5.5 million), all in Borbon.
Other ongoing projects include Poblacion–Suba Bridge in Daanbantayan (P33.3 million), Guadalupe Bridge in Bogo City (P20 million), Tabunok Bridge in Sogod (P18 million), Piyo Bridge in Tabogon (P16.8 million), and Lamintak Bridge in Medellin (P11.4 million).
Provincial Engineer Hector Jamora earlier said the bridge rehabilitation program is part of priority recovery efforts aimed at normalizing transportation and supporting economic activity in quake-affected areas.
He also said the projects were identified through the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment conducted by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office after the earthquake.
The rehabilitation program is part of the province’s wider “Kumbati Cebu” recovery initiative, which has a total allocation of P276 million approved by the governor. (SBA)
