Museo Sugbo to open for free on May 18

Museo Sugbo will offer free admission to the public on May 18, 2026, as it joins the global celebration of International Museum Day, inviting visitors to explore Cebu’s heritage, history, and cultural identity.

The museum announced that the free entry applies for the entire day, allowing families, students, and visitors to tour its exhibits and galleries without charge.

The initiative aims to encourage wider public appreciation of local history and strengthen engagement with cultural preservation efforts.

Museo Sugbo said the celebration highlights the importance of reconnecting with Cebu’s historical narratives and sharing stories that continue to shape communities across generations.

Visitors are encouraged to spend the day learning about Cebu’s past through its curated collections and exhibits housed within the historic site.

Located in Cebu City, Museo Sugbo features galleries that document the province’s colonial history and cultural evolution, serving as one of the key heritage institutions in the region.

In celebration of International Museum Day 2026, museums and cultural institutions in the capital are opening their doors with free admission, tours, and interactive activities.

At the National Museum, visitors can join May 18 programs across its sites.

The National Museum of Natural History will host a “Night at the Museum” game from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., limited to 50 participants, while the Fine Arts Museum will hold “Art Bridging Divides” from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. with 35 slots.

The Anthropology Museum will also run a mapping challenge linking artifacts to hometowns.

The Natural History Museum will stay open until 10 p.m., while the others close at 6 p.m.

The Metropolitan Museum of Manila will offer free admission from May 19 to 31, with both walk-in and online entry.

Far Eastern University will hold free heritage tours on May 18 at 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., while the UP Manila Museum of a History of Ideas will conduct guided heritage walks in Old Ermita starting 8:30 a.m., covering nine historic sites.

The Ayala Museum is offering discounted entry from Tuesdays to Thursdays until May 28 starting at P120 for select sectors.

The Ateneo Art Gallery will open on May 19 with a P300 banig weaving workshop requiring registration.

The Yuchengco Museum will offer free admission on May 17 to 18, featuring exhibits under the theme “Museums Uniting a Divided World.”
