The Environmental Management Bureau in Central Visayas (EMB-7) reported unhealthy air quality conditions across Metro Cebu as of 8:00 a.m. on May 17, 2026, prompting health precautions for residents, especially vulnerable groups.
According to EMB-7, monitoring at the Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Station (CAAQMS) in Talisay City showed PM2.5 levels classified as “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.”
Sensitive individuals — including children, senior citizens, and those with respiratory or heart conditions — are advised to limit prolonged or strenuous outdoor activities due to possible health effects caused by fine particulate matter in the air.
Meanwhile, the general public is less likely to experience serious effects but is still encouraged to take precautionary measures and avoid unnecessary exposure outdoors.
EMB-7 also shared the following meteorological data recorded during monitoring:
- Temperature: 30.5°C
- Wind Speed: 2–3 meters per second
- Wind Direction: Blowing from the east
The agency said it continues to closely monitor the air quality situation and will release further updates as needed to guide the public.
