Miss Eco International Philippines 2026 Gabbi Carballo captured attention with an eco-inspired gown that transformed pain, loss, and environmental neglect into a powerful visual statement.
Wearing a creation titled “BENEATH OUR BLINDNESS,” Carballo used the stage to honor the victims of the tragic Binaliw landslide in Cebu City on January 8, 2026 — a disaster that claimed dozens of lives and sparked renewed conversations about environmental responsibility and disaster preparedness.
Far from a typical pageant dress, the haunting ensemble carried deep symbolism in every detail. Crafted from discarded tarpaulin and aluminum foil, the piece reflected the growing consequences of waste, destruction, and society’s tendency to overlook environmental warning signs.
The gown featured 36 red beads representing the lives lost in the landslide, while a red mask and flowing crimson tears symbolized humanity’s blindness and silence toward ecological damage. Despite its dark imagery, the design also carried a message of hope through a dove element incorporated into the piece — a reminder that awareness and action can still create change.
The striking creation was designed by Sarah Tutor, King Rosales, and MJ Jamio, who turned recycled materials into wearable storytelling. Together with Carballo, the team used fashion not only as art, but as a platform for advocacy.
