Oslob’s Mainit Port reopens, resumes ferry trips to Siquijor

Mainit Port in Oslob has officially reopened after 15 years of inactivity, restoring inter-island sea transport in southern Cebu and expected to strengthen links with Siquijor and Dumaguete City while supporting tourism and local trade.

The reopening marks the return of operations at the facility, which had remained unused for more than a decade, following an inauguration led by Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro and officials of Asian Marine Transport Corp. (AMTC) on Friday, May 22.

The initiative is seen to improve passenger and cargo movement and enhance connectivity between Cebu and neighboring islands, particularly in the southern corridor.

In her remarks during the program, Baricuatro said the development would help strengthen tourism in southern Cebu, especially Oslob, which continues to attract visitors from different parts of the world.

She added that tourism growth also translates to wider economic benefits, including livelihood opportunities for small businesses, transport operators, food establishments, and local communities.

The reopening ceremony was also attended by Oslob Mayor Ronald Guaren, Second District Congressman Edsel Galeos, and Cebu Port Authority General Manager Francisco Comendador III, highlighting cooperation among local and national agencies in expanding transport infrastructure.

AMTC announced that its Super Shuttle Ferry will initially operate daily trips between Oslob and Siquijor, with departures scheduled at 8:00 a.m. from Siquijor and 1:00 p.m. from Oslob.
