Scattered rains, thunderstorms expected in Visayas, Mindanao

The trough of a low-pressure area (LPA) and the easterlies will continue to bring widespread rains across the country, the state weather bureau said on Saturday.

In its 4 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA was estimated at 795 kilometers east of General Santos City as of 3 a.m.

PAGASA said the weather system will affect several parts of the Visayas and Mindanao, while the easterlies will influence conditions in other areas, including Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

The bureau said Mindanao, Central Visayas, the Negros Island Region, Eastern Samar, Leyte, and Southern Leyte will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the trough of the LPA.

It warned residents in these areas of possible flash floods or landslides during periods of moderate to heavy rains, particularly in low-lying and mountainous areas.

In affected regions, intermittent downpours and thunderstorms may persist throughout the day as the weather system continues to move within the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Meanwhile, the easterlies are expected to bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

PAGASA said these weather conditions may still produce severe thunderstorms that could trigger flash floods or landslides, especially in areas prone to flooding or soil instability.

The bureau added that wind and sea conditions across the archipelago will remain generally manageable, with light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas prevailing nationwide.

Authorities continue to advise the public to remain alert for sudden changes in weather conditions, particularly during thunderstorms, which may develop rapidly in affected areas.
