Over 2,000 impounded units set for disposal in Mandaue City

The Mandaue City government is preparing to expedite the disposal of more than 2,000 impounded vehicles and motorcycles in a bid to decongest its overcrowded impounding facility.

The initiative is being pushed by the city’s Vehicle Disposal Committee, composed of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM), the Department of General Services, and the City Legal Office.

TEAM head Hyll Retuya said the impounding area has long exceeded its capacity, prompting the need for faster processing of unclaimed units.

“Congested na gyud kaayo atong impounding area, mao nga nalipay ta ani nga bag-ong development sa Disposal Committee,” Retuya said.

He said the committee will coordinate with the Traffic Board next month to formally declare long-unclaimed vehicles as abandoned, in line with a city ordinance that classifies units left in the impound for more than six months as abandoned.

Once declared abandoned, the vehicles will be eligible for public auction.

Retuya said many of the units have been left unclaimed for years, with some dating back to 2015 and already considered abandoned under existing rules.

“Sa atong ordinance, declared abandoned na unta ni sila after six months. Ang uban ani pila na ka tuig. Technically, abandoned na gyud ni sila,” he said.

He added that although an amnesty program was previously implemented, many owners still failed to recover their vehicles.

The city is now urging owners of impounded motorcycles, tricycles, and other vehicles to claim their units before they are included in the auction list.

“Manawagan ko sa mga tag-iya aning mga na-impound nga sakyanan—motorcycle, tricycle—palihug nalang kog kuha ani kay basin maapil ni sa among planong subasta,” Retuya said.

He said vehicles impounded in 2025 and earlier may be included in the auction, which is expected to be held within the year.

Final guidelines for the auction process will be determined by the Disposal Committee.
