Black Eyed Peas member Apl.de.ap joined environmental advocates and local stakeholders in Cebu City on Wednesday, May 28, to support ongoing efforts on reforestation, climate resilience, and disaster risk reduction in Cebu.
The environmental forum, held at Tambuli Seaside Resort and Spa, gathered advocates and stakeholders to discuss long term sustainability initiatives focused on ecosystem restoration, watershed protection, and community based environmental programs.
Environmental advocate Sarah Queblatin hosted the press conference, which was also attended by Uynghiem Ngo, Dan Vo, and Atty. Jun Muntuerto.
During the discussion, participants raised proposals aimed at strengthening Cebu’s environmental programs, including the possibility of introducing a “Green Sinulog” concept that would integrate sustainability practices into Cebu’s annual Sinulog Festival.
Apl.de.ap shared his personal connection to rural communities and farming, recalling his upbringing in a small town in Pampanga.
He emphasized the importance of supporting farmers and rural communities, describing them as vital contributors to environmental protection and food security.
“The trees doesn’t just heal the world but it also feeds the people,” Apl.de.ap said as he underscored the role of reforestation in restoring forests, protecting watersheds, and improving community resilience.
The international artist also called for greater inclusivity for farming communities, saying rural workers play a critical role in sustaining both communities and ecosystems.
Organizers said the gathering forms part of broader efforts to encourage collaboration between environmental advocates, local stakeholders, and private sector partners in promoting sustainable development initiatives in Cebu and nearby areas.
