Baricuatro inaugurates school building, tourism and senior citizen facilities in Madridejos

Governor Pamela Baricuatro led the inauguration and turnover of several infrastructure and social service projects in Madridejos on Friday, including a new school building, tourism facility, and senior citizen center aimed at strengthening education access and public services in the island town.

Baricuatro led the opening of a newly constructed three story, six classroom building at Madridejos Community College (MCC), along with the turnover of 1,000 armchairs, 30 computer sets, and 20 laptops intended to support students and improve learning conditions.

The governor said the projects reflect the importance of continued collaboration in delivering better opportunities for learners.

“Projects like this remind us that progress happens when we continue working together toward one goal — giving our students better opportunities and a better place to learn,” Baricuatro said.

Local officials, led by Madridejos Mayor Romeo A. Villaceran together with school administrators, faculty members, and students, welcomed the development, describing it as a major boost to both education and local growth.

Joining the governor during the turnover were Fourth District Representative Sun Shimura, Board Members Nelson Mondigo and Kerrie Keane Shimura, and First District Board Member Lakambini Reluya.

Baricuatro also inaugurated the Madridejos Tourist Rest Area, a one stop facility designed to improve visitor services and support the town’s tourism sector.

In a separate activity, the governor led a service caravan for senior citizens held at the Old Municipal Gym, alongside the launch of the National Commission of Senior Citizens Center at the new Madridejos Municipal Hall.

About 300 senior citizens availed of free government and medical services during the one day caravan.

The newly established center will serve as a hub for health, livelihood, recreation, and social programs for elderly residents.

“It feels good nga naa tag maadtuan nga di ta mobayad,” Baricuatro said, underscoring the importance of accessible services for senior citizens.

National Commission of Senior Citizens Regional Director Jocelyn TaboTabo said the center was designed to serve as a second home for the elderly sector.

Mayor Villaceran, meanwhile, urged continued support and compassion for vulnerable sectors, emphasizing the need for responsive local governance.

The series of initiatives form part of the provincial government’s broader push to expand education, tourism, healthcare, and social welfare services across Cebu.
