Marcos: No plans to replace DILG chief Jonvic Remulla

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday dismissed speculation of an impending leadership change at the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), saying Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla continues to enjoy his full trust and confidence despite concerns over fugitives allegedly evading arrest.

Speaking to reporters in Tokyo, Japan, Marcos said there is no plan to replace Remulla and brushed off circulating rumors linking him to a possible Cabinet shake-up.

“I don’t know why that rumor went around. I think somebody wants his job,” Marcos said.

He added that claims of an imminent removal appeared to be driven by political interests.

“Kaya kinakalat na matatanggal na siya para siguro ang inaasahan nila sila ‘yung mailagay. Pero wala kaming pinaplano na ganyan,” he said.

Marcos stressed that Remulla remains part of his administration’s working team and continues to perform his duties as DILG chief.

The President also clarified that the only recent change in the Cabinet involved the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), following the decision of Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma to step down due to health concerns.

“The only latest change in the Cabinet was in DOLE. Because Secretary Benny has asked to take a step back. He has some issues that he has to deal with. And so, we have appointed a new Cabinet secretary for DOLE, which is former Senator Francis Tolentino,” Marcos said.

The Palace earlier said the appointment of former senator Francis Tolentino to DOLE was part of efforts to ensure continuity in labor programs following Laguesma’s departure.

Despite recent speculation involving several government agencies, Marcos said his administration remains focused on maintaining stability within the Cabinet.
