Public support for the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte increased to 74 percent in April, according to the latest survey conducted by OCTA Research.
Results of the survey, conducted from April 20 to 24 among 1,200 adult Filipinos, showed that nearly three out of four respondents favored allowing the impeachment proceedings to move forward.
The figure was higher than the 69 percent recorded in a similar survey conducted from March 19 to 25.
Respondents were asked whether they believed Duterte should face trial in the Senate or an impeachment court to address the allegations against her.
The survey found that 21 percent opposed the impeachment trial, while 4 percent said they were undecided.
OCTA said the findings should not be interpreted as a judgment on Duterte’s guilt or innocence.
“The survey question measures public support for a Senate impeachment trial as a constitutional mechanism for addressing allegations and ensuring due process,” the polling firm said.
Among the country’s major geographic areas, support was strongest in the Visayas at 82 percent, followed by the National Capital Region at 81 percent, Balance Luzon at 77 percent, and Mindanao at 58 percent.
Opposition to the impeachment trial was highest in Mindanao, where 41 percent of respondents said they did not support the proceedings.
Across socioeconomic classes, support remained relatively consistent.
The survey recorded support levels of 74 percent among Class ABC respondents, 75 percent among Class D, and 73 percent among Class E.
OCTA said the survey has a margin of error of ±3 percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level.
Subnational estimates for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao carry margins of error of ±6 percentage points.
The survey was conducted as public debate continues over the impeachment complaint against Duterte and the prospect of a Senate trial in the coming months.
