AirAsia PH denies shutdown rumors, assures full flight operations

AirAsia Philippines has denied recent reports claiming that its airline operations are being grounded, stressing that all flights remain fully operational and continue to operate as scheduled across its network.

In a statement, the airline said the reports are “entirely false” and do not reflect its actual operations, adding that flight schedules remain unaffected except for normal operational considerations such as weather and other routine aviation factors.

“All Z2 flights remain fully operational, with flights and services continuing as scheduled across its network,” the airline said, referring to its flight code, while reiterating that there is no disruption to its services.

The company also described the circulating reports as part of a “coordinated and sensationalised” narrative, which it believes is intended to damage fair competition in the Philippine aviation industry.

It said such claims may mislead the public and undermine consumer confidence.

AirAsia Group emphasized that it continues to support affordable air travel and broader market competition, warning that any move toward reduced competition could negatively affect passengers through fewer choices and higher fares.

Tony Fernandes, co-founder and advisor of AirAsia Group, reaffirmed the airline’s commitment to the Philippines, saying it remains heavily invested in the country’s aviation sector and growth.

“AirAsia has long championed affordable travel and will continue to stand firmly against any development that harms consumers or restricts access to air connectivity. AirAsia carries almost seven million guests in the Philippines annually and our commitment to the Philippines is absolute,” Fernandes said.

He added that the group is investing in airport infrastructure developments, including Ninoy Aquino International Airport and Mactan-Cebu International Airport, as part of its expansion plans to improve connectivity and lower operational costs.

“These developments will allow Philippines AirAsia to expand our network, offer even more competitive fares and continue delivering greater value to Filipino travellers,” he said.

The airline also reaffirmed its long-term commitment to safe, affordable, and reliable air travel, saying it remains focused on supporting tourism and economic activity in the country.

AirAsia Philippines operates under the flight code Z2.
