Cleaner Shores for a Healthier Ocean: CCENRO Leads Coastal Clean-Up Drive in Inayawan for World Ocean Day 2026

CEBU CITY, Philippines — In observance of World Ocean Day 2026, the Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CCENRO) spearheaded a coastal clean-up drive in Barangay Inayawan on June 5, bringing together residents, volunteers, and environmental advocates in a collective effort to protect and preserve the city’s coastal ecosystems.

The initiative gathered members of the Inayawan Homeowners Association, alongside CCENRO personnel, who worked together to remove marine debris, plastic waste, and other litter that had accumulated along the shoreline. The activity aimed not only to improve the cleanliness of the coastal area but also to raise awareness about the importance of environmental responsibility and sustainable waste management.

World Ocean Day serves as a global reminder of the critical role oceans play in sustaining life, regulating the climate, and supporting communities and livelihoods. Through activities such as coastal clean-ups, local governments and community organizations continue to encourage greater public participation in protecting marine resources from pollution and environmental degradation.

CCENRO emphasized that safeguarding the environment requires a shared commitment from both government and citizens. The office noted that community-driven initiatives help foster a culture of environmental stewardship while strengthening efforts to address long-term ecological challenges.

The clean-up drive in Inayawan reflects Cebu City’s continuing dedication to preserving its natural resources and promoting sustainable practices that benefit both present and future generations. By working together to maintain cleaner shorelines and healthier marine habitats, participants demonstrated how collective action can contribute to a more resilient and environmentally conscious community.

As Cebu joins the global celebration of World Ocean Day, initiatives like this underscore the importance of protecting oceans and coastal areas—not only for today, but for the generations to come.
