MANDAUE CITY, Cebu — What began as a routine afternoon journey ended in tragedy after a woman riding a motorcycle was killed in a collision with a truck on the Cansaga Bay Bridge on Monday, June 9.
The victim was identified by police as Junalyn Nayon Capoy, 38, who sustained fatal injuries after her motorcycle figured in a crash with a truck along the bridge in Barangay Paknaan, Mandaue City.
Initial police reports showed that the truck involved in the incident was being operated by a 57-year-old driver. The force of the collision left Capoy with severe injuries, resulting in her untimely death.
Responding authorities immediately secured the area and conducted an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal accident. As of this writing, police have not yet disclosed additional details regarding the cause of the collision or any possible liabilities.
The incident serves as another grim reminder of the dangers faced by motorists on busy roadways, particularly on major transport routes such as the Cansaga Bay Bridge, which connects Mandaue City to northern Cebu towns.
Authorities continue to urge motorists to practice defensive driving, remain vigilant on the road, and strictly adhere to traffic regulations to help prevent similar tragedies.
