Mandaue City to give cash incentives to Palarong Pambansa medalists

Mandaue City will provide cash incentives to student-athletes and coaches who earned medals in the Palarong Pambansa 2026, in recognition of their performance and contribution to the city’s campaign in the national sporting event held in Agusan del Sur from May 24 to 28.

Mayor Thadeo “Jonkie” Ouano announced the incentive program during a City Hall session on Wednesday, June 10, alongside Committee on Education Chairperson and City Councilor Atty. Joel Seno and officials of the Department of Education (DepEd) Mandaue City Division led by Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Bianito Dagatan Jr.

Under the city’s existing ordinance for national sports achievers, gold medalists will receive P15,000 each, silver medalists P10,000, and bronze medalists P7,000.

Coaches of medal-winning athletes will also receive equivalent incentives based on the medals earned by their athletes. Seno clarified that in cases where an athlete wins multiple medals, only the highest medal will be used as basis for the incentive.

Ouano praised the athletes and coaches for their performance, emphasizing their discipline and commitment in representing the city at the national level.

“Salamat kaayo sa inyong sakripisyo, determination ug dedication. Win or lose, salamat kaayo for representing the city well, and we are very proud of you,” Ouano said.

He added that the incentive program is intended not only as a reward but also as motivation for young athletes to continue excelling and bring further honor to Mandaue in future competitions.

Mandaue City’s delegation secured a total of 17 medals in this year’s Palarong Pambansa, contributing to Central Visayas’ fourth-place finish in the overall regional standings.
