Proposed Alegria wind farm secures provincial development council support

A proposed wind energy project in southern Cebu has cleared a key local government hurdle after receiving endorsement from the Cebu Provincial Development Council (PDC) Executive Committee.

The PDC Execom has approved a resolution endorsing and interposing no objection to the Alegria Wind Power Project, a planned renewable energy facility being developed by MC Power Solutions Inc. in Alegria town.

The project is designed to generate 80 megawatts of electricity and supply power to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) once operational.

The endorsement was approved during the committee’s meeting on Wednesday, where members supported the resolution backing the project as it moves through regulatory requirements, including the securing of an Environmental Compliance Certificate.

While the project has gained administrative support, MC Power Solutions said it remains in the pre-development stage.

Ongoing activities include wind resource assessment, environmental studies, land surveys, and consultations with affected communities.

The company has also installed a meteorological mast in Barangay Guadalupe to gather wind data needed to determine the viability of the site for energy production.

The planned wind farm will consist of 10 turbine generators, each capable of producing eight megawatts of power, and will span barangays Guadalupe, Valencia, and Lepanto in Alegria.

MC Power Solutions is targeting 2028 for the completion of the project, with detailed engineering design and initial civil works expected to begin in the first quarter of next year.

The company said the project is expected to generate revenues for the host local government through real property taxes, local business taxes, and a one-percent royalty share from gross income.

It also cited additional benefits under the Department of Energy’s Energy Regulations No. 1-94, which provides financial support mechanisms for host communities.

MC Power Solutions added that its corporate social responsibility program, KAHALIGI, will fund community-based initiatives in project-affected areas.

The endorsement was approved during a session presided over by Governor Pamela Baricuatro and Cordova Mayor Cesar Suan, vice chairperson of the PDC Execom.

The council’s approved resolutions will be transmitted to the Regional Development Council for further review and consideration.
