Planning Your Days Just Got Better: PAGASA Launches PANaHON Weather App

Keeping track of the weather in the Philippines has become easier and more convenient with the launch of PANaHON, the official mobile application of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Unveiled during the observance of Typhoon and Flood Awareness Week in Quezon City, the PANaHON app gives Filipinos free access to real-time weather information straight from PAGASA’s nationwide monitoring network.

Designed to help individuals, families, travelers, farmers, and local communities make informed decisions, the app provides a wide range of weather-related features in one platform. Users can access daily weather forecasts, monitor rainfall and heat index conditions, view radar and satellite imagery, and receive location-based weather alerts.

One of its key features is the National Warning Map, which allows users to see hazard advisories and severe weather warnings affecting different parts of the country. The app also sends push notifications, ensuring that important weather updates reach users promptly.

PANaHON, which stands for PAGASA National Hydro-Met Observing Network, utilizes data gathered from PAGASA’s network of Automatic Weather Stations and Synoptic Stations nationwide. These are combined with forecast models from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), helping provide more accurate and localized weather information.

As extreme weather events become more frequent, having reliable weather updates at one’s fingertips can make a significant difference in daily planning and disaster preparedness. Whether it’s deciding if it’s safe to travel, scheduling outdoor activities, preparing for heavy rainfall, or simply checking the day’s heat index, PANaHON aims to become an essential tool for Filipinos.

With the launch of the app, PAGASA hopes to strengthen public access to timely and accurate weather information, empowering communities to stay informed and better prepared for changing weather conditions.
