Typhoon “Francisco,” internationally named “Mekkhala,” has intensified into a super typhoon as of 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 22, while remaining inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), according to state weather bureau DOST-PAGASA.
The weather disturbance continues to be closely monitored due to its increasing strength and potential impact on areas within or near the country.
PAGASA has yet to determine the extent of possible effects on land, but authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and regularly monitor official weather bulletins and advisories.
Meanwhile, Low Pressure Area (LPA) 06c, which has been under observation within the Philippine Tropical Cyclone Information Domain (TCID), has developed into a tropical depression, adding to the weather systems currently being monitored by forecasters.
Weather experts said the simultaneous presence of multiple tropical systems underscores the need for heightened preparedness, particularly among communities vulnerable to heavy rainfall, flooding, landslides, and strong winds.
Residents in potentially affected areas are advised to review their emergency plans, secure necessary supplies, and stay updated through official announcements from DOST-PAGASA and local disaster management offices.
Further details, including the projected track and possible impacts of Super Typhoon Francisco and the newly formed tropical depression, are expected in succeeding weather bulletins.
