Cebu Province launches first Governor’s Zero Hunger Run

The Cebu Provincial Government will hold its first Governor’s Zero Hunger Run on Aug. 2, 2026, combining efforts to address hunger with initiatives promoting sports development and healthy living across the province.

The event is being organized by the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) under the leadership of Governor Pamela Baricuatro and is part of the province’s broader campaign to support both community welfare and grassroots sports programs.

CPSC Chairman Rhoel James Timothy Dejano said the activity is anchored on the reconstitution of Executive Order No. 45, which focuses on sports development in Cebu Province.

Francis Chad Salimbangon, one of the event organizers, said the governor envisions the run as a way to advance the province’s goal of reducing hunger while encouraging more Cebuanos to engage in physical activity.

“Diri man gud sa Cebu, the governor wants everybody, as much as we can, ma-zero gyud ang kagutom,” Salimbangon said.

Aside from supporting the province’s anti-hunger efforts, proceeds from the event will help fund grassroots sports programs, improve sports facilities, and strengthen athletic development initiatives in Cebu.

The Governor’s Zero Hunger Run will start and end at the Cebu Provincial Capitol grounds. Organizers said participants will gather from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. for the province-wide event.

The run is expected to bring together runners, fitness enthusiasts, and supporters of the province’s social welfare and sports development programs.
