The Danao City Government has sought the support of the Regional Development Council in Central Visayas (RDC 7) for several major development projects, including a proposed P1-billion sports complex, reclamation initiatives, and a solid waste management facility.
Mayor Ramon Durano III presented the projects during the RDC 7 full council’s second-quarter meeting on Wednesday at the Danao City Civic Center.
The meeting was chaired by Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro, who also delivered her first State of the Region Address outlining the council’s accomplishments and priorities in infrastructure, economic development, social services, governance, and environmental management.
In his remarks, Durano thanked Baricuatro for encouraging local government participation in the regional council and strengthening coordination with national government agencies.
“This is a testament to her administration’s commitment towards good governance, opening doors of opportunities and creating networks for growth and development, enabling us, LGUs, to have an avenue to reach out to national offices, request assistance, and seek redress of our grievances,” Durano said.
Among the projects endorsed by the city government is the proposed Danao City Sports Complex and Convention Center, a world-class facility with an indoor arena planned in Barangay Maslog with an estimated cost of at least P1 billion.
The city also proposed the establishment of a solid waste management facility that would process various types of waste and convert them into by-products for construction use.
Also included in the city’s development agenda are two reclamation projects: a five-hectare expansion in Barangay Poblacion intended for commercial development and a 25-hectare reclamation project in Barangay Sabang aimed at supporting industrial growth.
Durano likewise sought support for a riverbank protection project designed to mitigate risks in areas affected by Typhoon Tino.
“In all these projects, we reiterate our commitment toward a safe, sustainable, and secure future for our communities,” the mayor said.
The RDC referred the proposals to concerned national government agencies for further evaluation and appropriate action, while Baricuatro expressed support for the city’s development initiatives.
