Cebu Provincial Government Geared Up for Possible Typhoon

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) released a 24-hour weather forecast following the presence of a Low Pressure area (LPA), providing advisories for various regions across the country.

In its 5PM advisory, PAGASA identified areas expected to experience heavy rainfall  from today until Thursday, July 2, 2026 and reminded public disaster risk reduction and management offices (DRRMOs) to take appropriate measures in order to protect life and property, while also urging the public to actively monitor weather updates from DOST-PAGASA.

In the Visayas, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected. The PAGASA update warns that moderate to heavy rainfalls may cause landslides and flash floods.

In response to the weather forecast, the Cebu Provincial Government announced the suspension of classes today in the municipalities of Santa Fe and Medellin, while noting that further announcements will be posted.

Col. Dennis Pastor, head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), said command centers are continuously monitoring the weather and issuing weather advisories and updates to the local disaster risk reduction and management offices as part of the province’s typhoon preparations.

Pastor added that the provincial government procured additional disaster response equipment, strengthening Cebu Province’s preparedness for emergency and rescue operations.

“We have procured six flood boats, rescue equipment, daghan ni siya nga gipang-procure,” he said.

Pastor also urges the public to follow credible advisories issued by local chief executives and local DRRMOs, emphasizing that these government stakeholders release official and reliable advisories on the appropriate actions to take during emergencies.

The Cebu Provincial Government closely monitors weather conditions and stays alert to immediately respond to possible disturbances caused by the intensifying weather.
