DepEd enforces stricter school safety rules, harsher penalties for bomb threats and weapons

The Department of Education (DepEd) has strengthened its school safety policies by classifying bomb threats and the possession or concealment of deadly weapons on school grounds as third-level offenses, the most serious category of student misconduct.

These stricter rules are outlined in DepEd Order No. 006, s. 2026, which aims to create a safer and more secure learning environment for students in public schools nationwide.

Under the policy, students found guilty of these violations may face non-readmission for a first offense and expulsion for a second offense. Schools are also required to immediately refer serious cases to law enforcement authorities for appropriate legal action.

The updated guidelines are part of DepEd’s School Safety Campaign, which focuses on strengthening campus security and protecting the well-being of learners amid evolving safety concerns.

DepEd said the enhanced policies underscore its commitment to maintaining safe, orderly, and violence-free schools while fostering an environment where students can learn without fear. “We are sending a clear message that threats to school safety will not be tolerated, and we will take decisive action to protect our learners,” said Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara.
