LTO 7 recognizes Cebu rider who helped catch hit-and-run driver

The Land Transportation Office Region 7 (LTO 7) recognized a Cebu City rider who helped authorities pursue and intercept a motorist involved in a hit-and-run incident near the South Bus Terminal.

LTO 7 Regional Director Atty. Wendel C. Dinglasan and Operations Division Chief Atty. Vincent Francis Bien B. Santiago honored 28-year-old John Clifford Godinez of Sambag I for his immediate response and assistance during the incident on July 8, 2026.

Godinez witnessed the hit-and-run incident involving a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing near the South Bus Terminal at around 7:30 a.m. He immediately alerted authorities and later joined LTO 7 law enforcement officers in chasing the fleeing motorist.

The driver was eventually intercepted along V. Rama Avenue. LTO 7 said the motorcycle involved in the incident was impounded, while the driver’s license is set for revocation. A criminal case is also being prepared against the driver.

Godinez said he decided to pursue the motorist after seeing the pedestrian get hit.

“Nakita man gud nako nga naigo ang tao, so akong huna-huna, wala na koy labot kung unsay mahitabo nako. At least, gi-chase nako siya. Gigukod namo siya hangtod na-intercept,” he said.

“Pasalamat ra pud ko nga safe ra ko ug wala ko natumba. Pasalamat sad ko sa LTO kay ila ko gitabangan sa paggukod atong motorista,” he added.

LTO 7 said Godinez had previously helped authorities pursue fleeing motorists, highlighting his continued efforts to support road safety enforcement.

Dinglasan commended Godinez for his act of citizenship but reminded the public to prioritize personal safety when responding to road incidents.

The agency emphasized that road safety requires shared responsibility and that public cooperation remains important in protecting lives on the road.
