Mandaue proposes incentives for barangay officials completing three terms

The Mandaue City Council is proposing a Service Recognition Incentive (SRI) for qualified barangay officials who have completed three consecutive terms, with eligible barangay captains set to receive up to P50,000 and barangay councilors up to P25,000.

City Councilor Dante Borbajo, who authored the proposed ordinance, said the measure aims to recognize barangay officials who have rendered continuous service to their communities.

Under the proposal, only barangay officials who completed three uninterrupted terms will qualify for the incentive.

“Kanang wala ma-interrupt ilahang three terms,” Borbajo said in an interview.

Borbajo explained that officials whose terms were interrupted would not be covered by the proposed incentive, as the measure is intended specifically for those who completed three straight terms.

“Kana rang straight atong mahatagan,” he said.

The councilor said the proposed cash incentive serves as recognition for the dedication and years of service of barangay officials.

As president of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC), Borbajo said the initiative has been planned for some time.

He also thanked Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano for supporting the proposal.

Borbajo said the incentive would be a city-funded program, with the budget to be sourced from the city’s general fund.

He expressed hope that the Service Recognition Incentive could be implemented within the year once approved.
