The Lapu-Lapu City Government has launched a scholarship program that will provide financial assistance to qualified Oponganon students pursuing college education in state universities and colleges.
The Lapu-Lapu City Scholarship Program for Higher Education (LLC-SPHE) is being implemented through the Local Youth Development Office (LYDO) under amended Ordinance No. 17-062-2026.
The ordinance renamed the previous Lapu-Lapu City Educational Assistance for Higher Education Program and established the guidelines for the new scholarship initiative.
The city government said the program will be managed by a scholarship committee chaired by Mayor Ma. Cynthia “Cindi” King-Chan.
SK Federation President Orlan Joseph Carungay serves as vice chairperson, while City Councilor Annabeth Cuizon, chairperson of the City Council committee on education, is a member of the committee.
The city said 18 applicants have already undergone interviews as part of the initial screening process for the scholarship program.
Applicants will be evaluated based on both merit and financial need, with criteria including academic performance, face-to-face interview results, socio-economic status, and priority degree programs.
To apply, students must submit an accomplished application form, school records, certificate of enrollment, certified copy of their course prospectus, and proof that their parents’ or legal guardians’ annual gross income does not exceed P250,000.
Applicants may also submit alternative documents, such as a Bureau of Internal Revenue tax exemption certificate or an affidavit of no or low income, if they are unable to provide an income tax return.
The scholarship is open to qualified Oponganon students enrolled in state universities and colleges, subject to the requirements and guidelines set by the Local Youth Development Office.
The city government said the program aims to provide educational support to deserving students and help qualified residents continue their higher education.
