Senator Rodante Marcoleta has been declared “fit to travel” but will remain under the custody of the Philippine National Police General Hospital (PNPGH) until he completes his antibiotic treatment for mild pneumonia, police officials said Monday.
Lt. Col. Benaly Bayani, chief of the PNPGH Internal Medicine Department, said Marcoleta’s transfer will depend on the orders of the Sandiganbayan.
Bayani said the senator’s medical recommendation only requires him to finish his antibiotics, which are scheduled to end on July 15.
“Yung ano lang po namin doon sa fit to travel is yung completion nung kanyang antibiotics… So yung completion ng antibiotics niya is on July 15, so hanggang doon lang po yun,” Bayani said.
She added that once Marcoleta completes his medication, the hospital can proceed with his transfer if ordered by the court.
“Basta ang nandoon lang po sa aming recommendation is that the completion of antibiotics. After that anytime po kung sasabihin na po sa amin, pwede naman po naming i-transfer si Senator Marcoleta,” she said.
Bayani also said Marcoleta’s medical tests have already been completed and included in the hospital’s report.
Marcoleta remains under PNP custody following his arrest over a non-bailable plunder case filed by the Office of the Ombudsman involving allegedly undeclared campaign donations.
He voluntarily appeared before the Sandiganbayan on July 6 and filed a motion to quash the plunder and indirect bribery charges against him and his co-accused, former congressman Mike Defensor and businessmen Joseph Espiritu and Aristotle Viray.
