We choose people who are green flags instead of red flags because we want our relationships to be one thing — to keep them healthy!
Every relationship we get ourselves into, we always make sure that we are choosing the right partners. We often put them through little tests that assure us of their love and commitment to the relationship before even labelling your connection ‘official’.
Yet, even after we choose the partner that matches our energy, frequency and love, we often struggle to maintain the healthiness of our relationships, often leading to break-ups and fallouts.
Of course, as lover boys and lover girls that we are, we do not want our relationships to end badly, or we just want to keep and love our partners the right way. With that, here are ways to maintain a healthy relationship with your partner.
Communicate with your partner.
As simple as it may sound, communicating with your partner helps build and maintain a healthy relationship. Expressing how you feel to your partner will not leave them guessing about how they should act, which results in responding to your wants and needs accordingly with no confusion. At the same time, as much as you say your feelings, you should also be an active listener. Listen carefully to your partner’s concerns and thoughts to create a deeper connection, and to find your commonalities that are helpful when solving conflicts.
A healthy relationship is a balance of listening and speaking — reciprocation!
Be attentive to your partner’s verbal and nonverbal cues.
In relation to having good communication with your partner, understanding their verbal and nonverbal cues fosters a healthy relationship. When you know these cues, you will know how your partner truly feels and be able to react correctly, strengthening your bond. However, for your partner to respond appropriately, you should also ensure that your tone and body language matches. Additionally, you should also show positive cues to your partner for them to be happy and loved.
Your body language and the change of the tone of your voice might appear as a small thing, but it can surely establish an unbreakable and healthy connection with your special someone.
Solve problems respectfully and with composure.
Arguments and problems are inevitable in a relationship. To maintain a good relationship with your loved one, what matters is how you respond to conflict. That is why when faced with challenges, you must handle it respectfully and calmly, avoiding hurtful words and actions. With this, you and your partner will be able to overcome your problems without a heavy heart as you acted gently. Also, do not let anger overpower you during confrontations and issues. Stay composed during conversations, and you will be able to come up with solutions that considers both your wants and needs.
Respect is always the top priority, especially when handling relationship problems. Stay respectful and composed and you will be able to preserve a healthy connection.
Spend quality time with your partner.
As time passes, you and your loved one become busy with different responsibilities, causing you to have less time to be with each other. Yet, to sustain a healthy relationship, both of you should find the time to be with each other. You should find time to do activities you both enjoy, go on new adventures, and even to simply stay at home and enjoy each other’s company. When you spend quality time together, you can express your love better, expressing your partner’s love language and vice versa. This results in a stronger relationship with your partner.
Enjoying little activities with your partner gives you more memories that you can treasure and look back to, which makes you nurture and establish a healthy relationship.
When we want our love to be healthy and prosperous, we should be willing to compromise, reciprocate, and be considerate. To love and be loved is indeed not easy, but it is definitely worth our heart and effort.
