Infant injured during baptism at Alegria Church

An infant sustained cuts to the fingers during a baptism ceremony at Alegria Church after coming into contact with a glass candle holder reportedly required by the parish for the rite.

According to the child’s mother, they were instructed by parish personnel to purchase candles and candle holders from the parish office before the ceremony. With little time to spare, the family proceeded directly to the church grounds, where multiple baptisms were being conducted.

The mother said the infant became restless while they were waiting for their turn and accidentally brushed against the glass holder. Several minutes later, she noticed blood on the child’s fingers. Upon checking the item, she discovered that the edges of the glass holder were jagged and sharp.

She said she immediately informed the priest about the incident but felt her concerns were met with indifference. While the family has no plans to file a legal complaint, they are seeking acknowledgment of the incident from the parish.

The mother also called on church authorities to look into the matter to help prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
