MAITUM, Sarangani — A 14-year-old girl died after being bitten by a venomous king cobra while protecting her younger cousins in Barangay Batian, Maitum, Sarangani Province.
According to initial reports, the victim was on her way to a nearby river with her cousins when they unexpectedly encountered the snake. In an apparent act of bravery, the teenager reportedly pushed her cousins behind her, shielding them from danger, and was the first to be bitten by the king cobra.
Despite the venomous bite, the girl managed to make her way home to ask for help. She was immediately rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment but was declared dead on arrival.
The incident has touched many in the community, with residents remembering the 14-year-old as a young hero who put the safety of her cousins before her own.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident and are reminding the public to remain vigilant, particularly in areas where venomous snakes may be present, and to seek immediate medical attention in the event of a snakebite.
