In modern times, relationships have evolved into different forms, often shaped by the individual preferences and circumstances. Among these is a type of relationship that is unusual for most people — a sugar relationship.
A sugar relationship is a beneficial connection between two consenting adults, one party is a wealthy person (sugar daddy) offering financial assistance to their younger partner (sugar baby), wherein the benefit the sugar daddy acquires is intimacy, companionship, and other terms agreed by the couple.
And as shocking as it may sound, sugar relationships are prevalent and famous in Central Visayas!
In Central Visayas, an app used to form sugar relationships recorded 22,665 sugar babies and 8,542 sugar daddies, which proves the emergence of sugar relationships in the region. However, there are still other places recorded to also have a large number of sugar daddies and babies: Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Central Luzon and Northern Mindanao. The sugar relationship population in Central Visayas comes in fourth, after the number in Central Luzon.
Apart from the question on the regions where sugar relationships are booming, one can also ask: how do sugar babies make use of the financial resources offered by their sugar daddies?
Data from a sugar relationship application shows that sugar babies mostly use the finances provided on fulfilling their adulthood responsibilities such as debt repayment, education, savings, housing, rent and investments. From these benefits, sugar babies are just tasked to satisfy the terms they agreed with their sugar daddies.
Sugar relationships are seen as unconventional, however this relationship is certainly advantageous to both parties, allowing them to meet both of their needs, financial or companionship, with established consent and boundaries. At the same time, we can also say that in an economy that is becoming more and more expensive, sugar relationships may be the financial help sugar babies need.
