The Cebu Provincial Government will hold a leaner month-long celebration for its founding anniversary this August, focusing on public service activities, community outreach programs, and a new cultural showcase.
Capitol Executive Assistant James Canoy said organizers have finalized the calendar of activities for the celebration, which will be funded by a P20-million budget.
“Na-final na namo ang calendar of activities for the founding anniversary,” Canoy said.
The celebration will begin on August 2 with the inaugural Governors Run, which will serve as the opening activity for the anniversary month.
A formal opening salvo will follow on August 3, featuring a flag-raising ceremony attended by Governor Pamela Baricuatro, Vice Governor Glenn Anthony Soco, members of the Provincial Board, mayors, and congressional representatives from across Cebu.
The opening will also mark the start of the Agri-Fair, scheduled from August 3 to 8.
On August 6, Cebu’s founding day, Capitol employees will hold a thanksgiving Mass, followed by a raffle and fellowship activities among provincial government offices.
Beyond anniversary events, the provincial government will also conduct medical and surgical missions in different areas of Cebu.
The first medical mission will be held in Danao City, while the second leg may be conducted either in Bantayan or the Camotes Islands, depending on the recommendation of the Provincial Health Office. The third mission is scheduled in Bogo City.
The Caravan of Services will also run every Wednesday throughout August, bringing government assistance and services closer to residents.
Other activities include the Information Officers Congress on August 12 and 13, which will gather local government information officers across the province.
The month-long celebration will end on August 31 with Baricuatro’s State of the Province Address, where she is expected to present the administration’s accomplishments and priorities.
The same day will feature Pasidungog, the province’s new cultural showcase that will replace the previous Pasigarbo sa Sugbo festival competition.
Unlike the former competition, Pasidungog will focus on festival presentations from participating local government units without the larger production requirements and expenses associated with the previous format.
Seven local government units have confirmed participation, including Borbon, Carmen, Toledo City, Dumanjug, Argao, Naga City, and Carcar City.
The participation of Bantayan Island’s Palawod Festival is still being discussed.
The event will also include Pasundayag, which will showcase decorated karosa representing different parishes.
Canoy said the Capitol increased financial assistance for participating groups to P100,000 from last year’s P30,000 to help support their presentations.
The amount will be added to the existing P1-million subsidy allocated for the activity.
This year’s celebration will also recognize retired Capitol employees for the first time as part of the anniversary activities.
Canoy said organizers are now completing the remaining preparations ahead of the August festivities.
