Watch Your Step: Human Waste on Osmeña Boulevard Footbridge Raises Public Health Concerns

CEBU CITY — A pedestrian footbridge along Osmeña Boulevard near the Social Security System (SSS) office continues to draw concern due to unsanitary conditions, with multiple piles of what appear to be human waste found scattered across the walkway.

During a visit on July 27, the footbridge appeared free of visible litter. However, the presence of suspected human waste and a strong foul odor created an unpleasant environment for pedestrians using the overpass.

The recurring sanitation issue has raised concerns about public hygiene, pedestrian safety, and the maintenance of public infrastructure in one of Cebu City’s busiest thoroughfares. Commuters and passersby are forced to navigate around the affected areas while enduring the persistent foul smell.

Footbridges are intended to provide safe and convenient access for pedestrians, but poor sanitation can discourage their use and pose potential health risks to the public.

The situation highlights the need for regular maintenance, sanitation efforts, and appropriate interventions from concerned authorities to ensure public walkways remain clean, safe, and accessible for everyone.
