26 Lapu-Lapu seniors receive P10,000 cash aid

Twenty-six senior citizens in Lapu-Lapu City received P10,000 each after reaching milestone ages covered by the Expanded Centenarians Act.

The beneficiaries, who celebrated their birthdays in July, received the cash assistance during a distribution ceremony at the Senior Citizen Community Care Center in Plaza Rizal, Barangay Poblacion.

Of the 26 recipients, 21 turned 80, two reached 85, and three turned 90. The beneficiaries received a combined P260,000 in cash assistance.

The grant was provided under Republic Act No. 11982, or the Expanded Centenarians Act, which took effect on March 17, 2024.

The law expanded government recognition and incentives for senior citizens by providing cash gifts to qualified Filipinos who reach specified milestone ages.

The City Social Welfare and Development Office facilitated the distribution in coordination with the National Commission of Senior Citizens Region 7.

NCSC 7 Director Jocelyn Tabotabo attended the payout at the city’s senior citizen facility.

Mayor Ma. Cynthia “Cindi” King-Chan said senior citizens continue to contribute to their families and communities, describing them as sources of guidance and inspiration for younger generations.

The city government said the cash assistance is part of its continuing support for senior citizens in Lapu-Lapu City.
