A smoother race, earlier preparations and closer coordination with the city government will headline the Cebu Marathon’s return on Jan. 10, 2027, as organizers prepare a new edition with a stronger focus on the runner experience.
DJT Events will organize the race in partnership with the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC), while the Cebu Executive Runners Club (CERC), which founded the Cebu Marathon, will remain involved in a consulting capacity. Cebu Landmasters Inc. will serve as event presenter.
The race will offer 10,500 slots across four categories: 3,000 for the 42K, 5,000 for the 21K, 1,500 for the 10K and 1,000 for the 5K.
Registration opens online on Aug. 15 and will remain open until the end of November or until all slots are filled.
The 42K will cost P2,999, the 21K P2,799, and the 10K and 5K P1,499 each.
DJT Events Managing Director Danika Johanna Lauchengco Tan said the company will fully direct and operate the race, while CERC will continue providing guidance and consultation.
The Cebu City Government will also take a more active role in the event.
CCSC Chairman Dr. Rhoel Dejaño said Mayor Nestor Archival instructed the commission to oversee the organization and execution of the race more closely.
“In the previous years, the Cebu City Government was not part of the organization of the running event, but only played a role in issuing the permits,” Dejaño said.
“But this time around, the mayor wanted us to oversee the overall organization, execution, and overall running of the event so that we will have a better experience for the participants,” he added.
Organizers are also putting earlier preparation into the race, particularly for finisher medals.
The medals are expected to arrive as early as November.
“As we continue to transition to this new chapter, we will continue to work closely with them through guidance and consultation only,” Tan said.
The move comes after the 2025 and 2026 editions encountered concerns involving medal distribution and other aspects of the post-race experience.
For 2027, organizers said all finishers in the 42K, 21K, 10K and 5K will receive medals.
Race kits will also feature upgraded entitlements.
The AIMS-certified 42K course will pass through the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway, Cebu Tunnel and other heritage and cultural sites. SM Seaside City Cebu will serve as the event venue.
Organizers will also strengthen hydration stations, medical and logistical support, course activities and communication with runners.
More than P600,000 in cash prizes will be distributed across the Overall Open, age-group and special award categories. The male and female 42K champions will each receive P70,000.
Eligible participants will also have a chance to win a Jaecoo J5 Super Hybrid System compact SUV through a raffle with official vehicle and raffle partner OMODA & JAECOO.
