After years of working without permanent appointments, 118 healthcare workers in Cebu provincial government hospitals have secured plantilla positions, giving them greater job security as they continue serving patients.
The workers took their oath of office and received their appointments during a ceremony at the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Balamban on Aug. 17.
Of the 118 appointees, 97 were elevated from job order positions, while 19 existing permanent employees moved to higher positions.
The appointments covered five hospitals operated by the Cebu Provincial Government.
CPH-Balamban had the largest number with 100 appointments, followed by CPH-Carcar with nine and CPH-Danao with seven. One worker each from Bantayan District Hospital and Ricardo L. Maningo Memorial Hospital in San Francisco, Camotes, also received an appointment.
Public Health Consultant Dr. Nikki Catalan described the mass oath-taking as a milestone for the provincial government.
“This is quite historic kay mao ni first jud nga outside en masse nga nag-oath taking,” Catalan said.
For employees who spent years working in provincial hospitals without permanent status, the appointments provide greater employment security and formalize their positions in the provincial healthcare workforce.
Among them was Nurse Angel Mae Apduhan, 36, who secured a permanent position after 13 years of service.
Apduhan said she had considered leaving at times but remained because of her commitment to serving patients in the provincial hospital system.
She started earning P17,000 and now receives P43,000 as a Nurse II.
Gov. Pamela Baricuatro said the appointments strengthen the province’s healthcare workforce while recognizing employees who have spent years serving Cebuanos.
“We are so blessed and so lucky nga this time in the history sa probinsiya nga we are all working together,” Baricuatro said.
She urged the newly appointed workers to continue helping the provincial government deliver services to residents.
“I really rely on you to help me serve the people,” she said.
Baricuatro also thanked the workers for their years of public service and said she hopes her administration will leave a meaningful contribution to Cebu’s healthcare system.
“Gusto lang nako nga if mahuman na akong term, I can truly say to myself that I have served the people of Cebu,” she said.
