The Cebu Provincial Government will bring back its four-day workweek next week as part of efforts to reduce energy consumption.
Under a memorandum issued by Governor Pamela Baricuatro on Sept. 23, provincial government offices and departments are encouraged to adopt a compressed workweek starting Monday, Sept. 28.
Employees covered by the arrangement will report from Monday to Thursday, from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The memorandum stated that the arrangement will remain in effect “until further notice.”
Baricuatro issued the directive pursuant to Executive Order No. 16, series of 2026, which provides the basis for the province’s energy-saving measures.
Several offices, however, will continue their regular operating schedules because of the nature of their operations and services.
These include the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), Cebu Provincial Health Office (CPHO), Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC), and Cebu Normal School Basic Education and Training (CNSBT).
The Provincial Governor’s Office (PGO), Provincial General Services Office (PGSO), and Provincial Treasurer’s Office (PTO) are also encouraged to designate personnel who will continue reporting under the regular Monday-to-Friday schedule.
The arrangement is intended to keep essential administrative and frontline services accessible while most provincial offices operate under the compressed schedule.
The provincial government had previously implemented a four-day workweek and other energy-saving measures beginning March 9, 2026. It later restored the regular work schedule at the Cebu Provincial Capitol starting May 4.
With the latest memorandum, the compressed workweek will again cover most provincial government offices starting Sept. 28.
