Five interns from the Netherlands have begun an internship program with the Lapu-Lapu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (DRRMD), marking the sixth batch of Dutch interns to undergo training in the city.
The interns, Robin Zieltjens, Fleur Hoogstedes, Mars Braam, Jay Voets and Floortje Moolj, were welcomed by Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Ma. Cynthia “Cindi” King-Chan on Monday, Sept. 21.
They were accompanied by Lapu-Lapu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) head Dr. Nagiel Bañacia as they formally began their learning experience with the city’s disaster risk reduction and management team.
The internship will expose the Dutch interns to the city’s disaster preparedness and emergency response operations, as well as its community-based disaster risk reduction initiatives.
The city government said the program also aims to promote knowledge exchange between the visiting interns and local DRRM personnel.
King-Chan said the internship gives the interns an opportunity to learn from Lapu-Lapu City’s experiences in disaster preparedness while sharing their own knowledge and practices with the local DRRM team.
The city government said it hopes the program will give the interns a deeper understanding of how local authorities work with communities to strengthen disaster preparedness and protect residents from hazards.
