Cebu bus fares rise as new rates take effect

Passengers heading out of Cebu are now paying more for several bus trips after new public utility vehicle fare rates took effect on Sept. 28.

Vallacar Transit Inc., operator of Ceres buses, implemented updated fares for routes from the Cebu South Bus Terminal to destinations across southern and northern Cebu, as well as longer trips to Zamboanga and Siquijor.

The adjustments followed the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board’s implementation of approved fare increases for public utility vehicles nationwide, including provincial buses.

For southbound trips, passengers traveling from the Cebu South Bus Terminal to Carcar now pay P110 for air-conditioned buses and P90 for non-air-conditioned buses.

The fare to Simala is P150 for air-conditioned buses and P125 for non-air-conditioned buses, while trips to Argao cost P180 and P150, respectively.

Passengers bound for Moalboal pay P240 for air-conditioned buses and P200 for non-air-conditioned buses.

Trips to Bato via Oslob cost P380 for air-conditioned buses and P310 for non-air-conditioned buses, while Bato via Barili costs P400 and P325, respectively.

Other southbound fares include P230 to Anajao, P200 to Pinamungajan, P230 to Aloguinsan and P250 to Alcoy for air-conditioned buses.

Non-air-conditioned fares are available for some routes.

For northern Cebu, the fare from Cebu to Maya is P370 for air-conditioned buses and P300 for non-air-conditioned buses.

Passengers traveling to Daanbantayan pay P350 and P285, respectively, while fares to Hagnaya are P300 for air-conditioned buses and P245 for non-air-conditioned buses.

The fare to Bantayan Island is P360 for air-conditioned buses.

For longer routes, Cebu-to-Tacloban trips cost P675, while an air-conditioned bus ride from Cebu to Zamboanga costs P1,330.

The fare to Siquijor is P640.

The LTFRB said the new fare schedule includes higher rates for provincial buses, with the ordinary provincial bus fare for the first five kilometers increasing to P12.

Succeeding-kilometer rates also increased depending on the classification of the bus.

Vallacar Transit advised passengers to check its official channels, terminals and branches for the latest fare information before purchasing tickets.
