Potholes Raise Road Safety Concerns in Mandaue City

MANDAUE CITY, CEBU — Large potholes filled with rainwater were observed along Potenciano Larrazabal Avenue near Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) on Thursday, October 8, raising concerns over road safety and maintenance.

The damaged road surface has made it difficult for motorists and motorcycle riders to navigate the area, with rainwater also making the depth of some potholes difficult to see.

The condition poses potential risks to motorists, riders, pedestrians, and students who regularly pass through the road. Vehicles may also sustain damage when passing through the potholes.

The situation comes amid continuing public attention on government spending for road construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is responsible for implementing and maintaining national government-funded road projects, making timely inspection and appropriate repairs essential where road conditions pose safety concerns.

Authorities are urged to assess the affected portion of Potenciano Larrazabal Avenue and determine the appropriate repair or rehabilitation work needed.

For motorists and pedestrians, the immediate concern remains the same: a safer and properly maintained road.
