Mandaue deploys traffic enforcers for Kalag-Kalag road closures

Mandaue City will close portions of four roads from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2 to make way for pedestrians expected to visit cemeteries during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) head Hyll Retuya said the annual road restrictions aim to protect pedestrians and manage vehicle movement around major cemeteries.

The affected sections include portions of B.B. Cabahug Street, F.B. Cabahug Street, A.S. Fortuna Street near the corner of B.B. Cabahug Street, and F.S. Rosal Street in Barangay Guizo.

“Kini nga road closures mao naman gyud ni ang naandan nga every year atong isira, para lang to accommodate ang foot traffic ba anang higayona,” Retuya said.

Certain portions of the roads will be off-limits to vehicles to provide space for pedestrians and vendors during the three-day observance. Private vehicles may enter up to designated points, subject to instructions from traffic personnel.

TEAM has also identified one-sided parking areas for cemetery visitors. Traffic enforcers will be stationed along nearby roads to assist motorists and prevent congestion.

Under an executive order issued by the Office of the Mayor, cemetery operations will run from 6 a.m. to midnight.

To ensure sufficient personnel throughout the holiday period, Retuya said he had issued a memorandum deferring the leaves of traffic enforcers.

TEAM will deploy personnel in eight-hour shifts and provide them with food and drinking water as they manage traffic and assist pedestrians, including during periods of intense heat.

Retuya said the agency expects a large number of cemetery visitors, prompting preparations for extended traffic management operations.

Motorists are urged to follow the instructions of traffic enforcers and observe road restrictions when passing through the affected areas.
