Cebu will receive P1.365 billion in national government assistance to support the rehabilitation of roads, bridges, public buildings and other facilities damaged by the 2025 earthquake and Typhoon Tino.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the formal turnover of the funding at Malacañang Palace on Nov. 5, with Cebu Gov. Pamela Baricuatro heading the province’s delegation.
The allocation is part of the government’s Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Assistance Program (DRRAP), which provides financial support to local government units (LGUs) recovering from disasters recorded between 2024 and 2026.
Baricuatro said the funding would help the provincial government fulfill its remaining recovery commitments, particularly the reconstruction of bridges and other damaged infrastructure.
“This would really help us complete our recovery program, so ito gagamitin namin for the reconstruction of some bridges,” she said.
She also underscored the need to ensure that the assistance is spent only on its intended projects.
“So what is intended for the disaster projects should go to the projects. There’s no room for corruption,” Baricuatro said.
Cebu’s allocation accounts for about 15.87 percent of the P8.6 billion approved under DRRAP for 306 LGUs nationwide.
The funding will cover projects of the provincial government, 21 municipalities, and the highly urbanized cities of Cebu and Mandaue. Aside from infrastructure rehabilitation, the assistance will support recovery initiatives in health, agriculture and resettlement.
Bogo City will receive the largest share among Cebu’s beneficiaries at P180 million, followed by Liloan with P115 million.
San Remigio, Cebu City and the Cebu Provincial Government were each allotted P100 million, while Danao City will receive P75 million.
Borbon, Sogod, Catmon, Daanbantayan, Compostela, Consolacion, Toledo, Medellin, Tabogon and Tabuelan were each allocated P50 million.
Mandaue City and Talisay City will also receive P50 million each. San Francisco was allotted P25 million, while Asturias and Balamban will each get P20 million.
The island municipalities of Tudela, Pilar and Poro were each allocated P10 million.
Separately, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7 secured an additional P777 million for ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction projects related to the earthquake and Typhoon Tino.
Combined, the DRRAP assistance and the additional DPWH funding bring the newly approved recovery allocations for Cebu to P2.142 billion.
