Cebu City is positioning itself as a training hub for sustainability-ready events professionals as the Philippines seeks to attract more international business meetings and conventions.
Envi-Comm Corporation, in partnership with Singapore-based NTUC LearningHub, will launch the country’s first Certified Event Sustainability (CES) professional accreditation program in Cebu on Nov. 23, 2026.
The initiative aims to equip workers in the meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE), hospitality and tourism sectors with skills and credentials to meet the growing sustainability requirements of international clients.
The program is accredited by the Singapore Association of Convention and Exhibition Organizers and Suppliers (SACEOS) and NTUC LearningHub.
Envi-Comm founder Karlo Cuizon said bringing the course to Cebu would make the accreditation more accessible to local professionals and help build a pool of practitioners capable of applying sustainable practices in venues, event companies and tourism organizations.
The training comes as the Philippines works toward its 2030 goal of becoming a leading MICE destination through international events, economic opportunities and stronger global competitiveness, as outlined in the Department of Tourism’s roadmap cited in the United Nations Development Programme’s Making MICE Circular toolkit.
For local event organizers and venues, competing for international business also means meeting clients’ environmental standards, including requirements on resource use, waste management and operational efficiency.
MICE events can generate substantial waste, particularly plastics and food waste, while consuming significant amounts of water and energy.
Temporary venues and inadequate post-event waste collection can add pressure to local waste management systems.
The CES program is intended to help industry professionals incorporate sustainability measures into event planning and operations, while strengthening their ability to meet corporate client requirements.
Participants must complete two core modules and one elective, including the required assessments, to qualify for the accreditation.
The training covers sustainable practices that can strengthen proposals for international clients, reduce water and energy consumption, and improve event operations.
Accredited participants will also be able to connect with other certified professionals and industry peers internationally.
The program targets event planners and organizers, marketing and communications managers, executives handling corporate and promotional events, hospitality workers managing MICE venues, tourism coordinators, and educators in tourism and hospitality programs.
