Lapu-Lapu City will host another regional gathering this month as it welcomes delegates for the 80th ASEAN Working Group on Intellectual Property Cooperation (AWGIPC) Meeting and Related Meetings from Nov. 15 to 20, 2026.
The six-day event is expected to bring together heads of intellectual property offices, government officials and representatives from member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
City Tourism Officer Garry Lao said the gathering could draw more visitors and give Lapu-Lapu another opportunity to demonstrate its capacity to host international events.
The city plans to follow the preparations and security protocols it implemented during previous ASEAN-related gatherings, including the recently concluded 20th ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting and 13th ADMM-Plus.
“Kung unsa ang drill sa previous ASEAN meetings, the same ang treatment,” Lao said.
The city government began coordinating preparations on Nov. 4, when it met with representatives of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) and other concerned agencies to discuss logistical requirements and their respective responsibilities.
Secretary to the Mayor Atty. Misaellee Tejano led the meeting and facilitated discussions among the participating offices.
The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office also presented its security preparations to ensure the safety of delegates and the orderly conduct of the meetings.
The AWGIPC meeting will provide ASEAN member states an opportunity to discuss intellectual property concerns and strengthen cooperation across the region.
