If a visitor’s first impression of Cebu were a story, every detail, from clean public toilets to whale sharks, would be part of the plot.
The province is meticulously preparing to welcome Southeast Asia’s top tourism decision-makers for the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2026.
The Cebu Provincial Government is organizing curated tours for both local and international delegates, highlighting the province’s cultural, historical, and natural attractions.
Governor Pamela Baricuatro said the event is more than a logistical exercise—it is an opportunity to “tell Cebu’s story through experience rather than speeches.”
In southern Cebu, iconic sites are being readied for international attention.
Oslob’s world-famous whale shark encounter is positioned as a signature eco-tourism experience, while Aloguinsan’s Bojo River cruise offers a community-based perspective.
Back in Cebu City, Museo Sugbo will anchor tours in history and heritage.
Preparations also focus on health, safety, and security.
Medical teams and ambulances will be on standby throughout the events, coordinated with the Department of Tourism Central Visayas.
Security measures are being strengthened in cooperation with national agencies.
“Last week during a meeting they were asking if we could assist for the ambulance and also a medical team,” Baricuatro noted.
The main ATF gatherings will be held at the NuStar Convention Center in Cebu City, while the Travel Exchange component will bring industry participants to Lapu-Lapu City later this month. Coordination has also extended to neighboring Bohol for pre- and post-event tours.
For Baricuatro, hosting ATF 2026 is a test of Cebu’s readiness on the global stage—through efficient planning, warm hospitality, and attention to detail.
She also called on Cebuanos to play their part, noting that visitor experiences reflect the province as much as its beaches and landmarks.
And when asked about sharing Cebuano culture on a plate, the governor’s answer was simple: “Cebu’s lechon.”
