The proposed modernized Mandaue City Hospital (MCH) has entered the detailed engineering design stage, marking a significant step toward construction. City officials and project consultants met on March 19 to finalize architectural plans and complete technical and regulatory requirements, including the Permit to Construct and other pre-construction approvals.

The meeting was presided over by Lone District Representative Emmarie Ouano-Dizon, who said completing the design phase is crucial to advancing the long-planned hospital project.

Project architect Zuriel La Torre presented the final design for a four-storey hospital with a roof deck, totaling approximately 17,800 square meters.

The facility will replace and upgrade existing hospital services, meeting current healthcare standards while allowing for future expansion.

The hospital will be built in phases, with Phase 1 estimated to cost P457 million. Officials said the phased approach allows the city to manage funding while prioritizing critical components once construction begins.

Consultants also presented technical studies required for project approval.

Architect Rey Boy Osal led a Traffic Impact Assessment, detailing traffic circulation plans and mitigation measures for the expected increase in vehicle volume.

Engineer Paul Ampong discussed the drainage assessment plan, designed to prevent flooding around the hospital site during heavy rains.

City officials emphasized that these studies are essential to ensure construction and operations do not negatively impact surrounding communities.

City Administrator Gonzalo Malig-on Jr., MCH Chief Hospital Ligaya Lakambini Dargantes, Opao Barangay Captain Nixon Dizon, City Planning and Urban Development Office head Marlo Ocleasa, Project Development Officer Charlene Cañete, and Traffic Enforcement Agency chief Hyll Retuya were also present.

Representatives from the Department of Public Works and Highways Region 7, led by Assistant Regional Director Nonito Paylado, reviewed compliance with national infrastructure standards.

Officials from the Bureau of Fire Protection ensured that fire safety and emergency requirements are incorporated into the final design.

City officials said the completion of the detailed engineering design will allow the local government to secure remaining permits and approvals, bringing the MCH project closer to construction. (VCL)
