Cucina Lucas: Serving and Satisfying every Cebuano’s Craving

The business started when the pandemic happened last June 2020. I used to be a seafarer but left my dream job (around September 2019) to help my mother in handling our little Karenderia in Tingub, Mandaue. Karenderia may sound “cheap” to some, but never for me. It has found a special place in my heart, not just because it was our only source of income, back then, but it also represented my mother’s achievement while raising her two children alone.

When COVID 19 pandemic, arrived in early 2020, establishments near our store stopped their operations temporarily in compliance with the government regulation. With this, we lost our daily customers who were employees of these companies. Thus, we ended up closing our store temporarily also.

To keep me busy and because I’m the type of person who wanted to keep doing something, I indulged myself in cooking. I spend most of my time watching tutorial videos, especially on how to cook Crispy Pata since it has always been on the list of my favorite Filipino foods. During that time, I realized why not sell foods online? Given the current situation where most people were not allowed to go outside unless necessary, I saw an opportunity to serve their needs.

To start, I created a Facebook page namely CG Home-made Food as my marketing channel since everyone was into social media. I listed down a few dishes on the menu like the Crispy Pata, Pancit Canton, Flavored wings, Beef Pochero, etc. At first, whenever a customer placed an order, I prepared the food and delivered it at the customer’s doorstep myself. Until such time, I already had my own team without even knowing it. With consistency, hard work, and the unending support of my family, I pursued this online business.

One day, I came across the saying “Start on what you have”. That’s when it hit me hard. I realized I wanted more. I cannot just settle for less. I wanted to bring the team and the business to the next level. And so, we started renovating our small Karenderia. I constructed tables made from wooden pallets and I even learned to do Photoshop for the tarpaulin design. We wanted to test our foods by offering a ‘dine-in’ experience to our customers despite the fact that the place was not decent enough since we were located along the bumpy roadway.

To our surprise, customers delightedly visited our store. It was a very satisfying feeling seeing happy customers, simply because of the foods we served. It was not the place; it was our Filipino foods that they loved! With a determined heart and dedication, I told my team “One day we will have our own restaurant” and at that very moment, CUCINA LUCAS was born.

Today, Cusina Lucas continues to open the doors for all Filipinos. We commit always to serving and satisfying every Cebuano’s craving. So, whenever you visit Cebu, include Cusina Lucas on your go-to places for great meals.
