Cebu is set to host the Philippine Sports Expo 2026 this November, a major sports gathering expected to attract more than 20,000 athletes, teams, and delegates from across the country and abroad.
Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival announced the development following a courtesy visit from organizers of the Philippine Sports Expo at Cebu City Hall.
The delegation was led by Mike Herrera, president of the Philippine Sports Expo, together with Allan Cejas, Miguel Hernan, and Jose Mari Cañizares. They were joined by sports advocate Rocky Alcoseba, who briefed the mayor on preparations for the event.
Organizers said the expo will feature competitions across multiple disciplines, including basketball, tennis, soccer, and other sporting events.
The Philippine Sports Expo is a national sports event and industry trade show that brings together athletes, sports organizations, brands, and other stakeholders in the sports sector.
Aside from competitions, the event will also include exhibitions showcasing sports equipment, technology, and health products. Conferences, workshops, and networking activities are also expected to be held to support the growth of the country’s sports industry.
Organizers said the expo aims to help discover and develop young athletes, promote sports-related businesses, and encourage improvements in sports facilities and training standards nationwide.
Archival said hosting the event could also generate tourism and economic opportunities for the city while supporting the development of local athletes.
“Events like this are a great opportunity to boost sports tourism and our local economy, while also supporting the development of our athletes and further improving sports facilities in the city,” Archival said.
The Philippine Sports Expo stages events in different cities across the country to expand participation in sports and strengthen collaboration within the sports industry.
For 2026, organizers have also scheduled another staging of the expo in Bacolod City in April before the Cebu event later in the year. (LLP)
