post-title

Hundreds of vendors gathered at Carbon Public Market on Saturday night, March 14, holding a prayer rally and noise barrage to oppose privatization plans they fear could displace stallholders and threaten their livelihoods.

Tensions began to rise after redevelopment and privatization plans for the historic market were raised, with vendors expressing concern that modernization efforts could lead to higher rental costs and the possible removal of long-time stallholders.

Vendors said Carbon remains a vital source of affordable food and income for thousands of families in Cebu City and urged authorities to ensure that any development will protect both vendors and consumers.
