A tricycle driver was fined after allegedly overcharging a British tourist in violation of the municipal fare ordinance. According to the Office of the Mayor, the tourist was asked to pay P200 for a trip that should have only cost P30 based on the standard tariff.
Mayor Inocents G. Cabaron ordered that the driver be barred from operating until he settles the P1,000 penalty corresponding to a first-offense violation.
The mayor also urged hotel and resort managers to immediately report similar incidents to the Office of the Mayor to protect visitors from abusive fare practices.
Under the ordinance, tricycle drivers found guilty of overcharging face the following penalties:
• First offense: P1,000
• Second offense: P2,000
• Third offense: P2,500 and imprisonment of up to six months
Local authorities reiterated their commitment to ensuring fair treatment for tourists and maintaining the municipality’s image as a safe and honest destination.
