Cebu-based examinees made a strong showing in the November–December 2025 Dentist Licensure Examination, highlighting the province once again on the national stage.
Four graduates from local schools ranked among the country’s top performers. Leading the pack is Zoe Otsenre Garsuta Taclay of Cebu Doctors University, who placed second nationwide with an 86.83 percent rating, making her the highest-ranking Cebu passer.
Southwestern University further strengthened Cebu’s presence in the Top 10 with three graduates: Irene May Panilagao Robles took third place with 86.70 percent, followed by Rochell Garingo at sixth with 86.47 percent, and Steffi Zen Butihen Villas at seventh with 86.14 percent.
High passing rate reported
The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) reported that 1,282 out of 1,474 examinees, or 86.97 percent, passed the latest Dentist Licensure Examination.
The top overall scorer was Irish Kyle Katipunan Mateo of the University of the East–Manila, who achieved an 87.73 percent rating.
Two schools recorded a 100 percent passing rate: Cebu Doctors University and Centro Escolar University–Makati, earning them the distinction of top-performing institutions in the board exams.
Exam schedule and coverage
The licensure exams were conducted in two phases. Written tests took place from November 24 to 26, 2025, while practical examinations ran from December 1 to 6, 2025, at designated centers in Metro Manila.
The PRC Board of Dentistry administered the exams, chaired by Dr. Merlin A. Go, with members Dr. Melinda L. Garcia, Dr. Carlito D. Paragas, Dr. Gloria M. Bumanlag, and Dr. Ellis James B. Ranada.
Examinees were assessed on a comprehensive set of subjects, including oral anatomy and physiology, pathology and microbiology, restorative and prosthetic dentistry, oral diagnosis and surgery, anesthesiology and pharmacology, pediatric dentistry and orthodontics, dental jurisprudence and ethics, periodontics, and endodontics.
Next steps for passers
Initial registration for newly licensed dentists begins on February 16, 2026, via the PRC online appointment system.
Passers must complete the registration in person and submit required documents, including their Notice of Admission, oath form, passport-sized photographs, documentary stamps, and sign the Roster of Registered Professionals.
Those intending to participate in the face-to-face mass oath-taking are advised to register in advance through the PRC website. Virtual and special oath-taking options are available for those unable to attend the scheduled ceremonies. (LLP)
